The Freelance Participant Support and Wellbeing Officer sits within the Learning and Participation team. You will be responsible for ensuring that participants’ wellbeing is at the heart of all planning and delivery. You will deliver pastoral support, triage issues and provide support on all matters regarding the pastoral care and safeguarding of participants. You will also work closely with rest of the team to ensure that monitoring and evaluation practices inform and are aligned with wellbeing practices and are implemented effectively.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing pastoral care, advice and support for participants, including 1:1 support sessions
  • Triaging on a variety of presenting issues, including wellbeing and welfare concerns, mental health support, financial and housing concerns, safeguarding, harassment and bullying, and sexual misconduct
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of available local support services
  • Ensuring Hackney Empire’s internal safeguarding and duty of care policies and procedures are robust and effective, and updating these as and when necessary, in collaboration with the Designated Safeguarding Officer
  • Acting as a source of expertise and authority on matters relating to participant welfare and providing a supportive role for other staff supporting participants
  • Developing and implementing appropriate strategies to support participants pastoral wellbeing and development. This includes planning and/or facilitating practical creative workshops
