About the role
As the Head of Building Operations you will focus on:
- The effective day-to-day management and running of ENB’s facilities at the Mulryan Centre for Dance. Leading the proactive and successful delivery of a welcoming, secure, efficient, clean, safe and comfortable environment for all users of the facilities, ensuring ENB delivers a high level of satisfaction and customer service to staff, clients and the public.
- Managing the building’s operating needs, working within an allocated budget, ensuring the facilities are optimised, use of the building is well coordinated, in good repair and maintenance.
- Supporting the strategic use of the facilities for sector support and leading on the delivery of regular and planned preventative maintenance, and project-managing any building capital projects.
- Stakeholder and relationship management with external suppliers through strategic contract management, and liaising with our freeholder, Ballymore Group.
- Leading and developing a small, specialized team, working collaboratively with all team members across the department.
- Supporting the Chief Operating Officer with ENB’s annual business planning process, including producing an annual business plan for building management within an affordable budget.
- Leading ENB’s environmental responsibility strategy.
Your main responsibilities as Head of Building Operations:
- Ensure that building security is managed and planned for at all times.
- Lead on the implementation of large and complex hires and oversee day-to-day hire logistics.
- Ensure optimum performance of the building through managing contracts to strategic aims, warranty management, pro-active improvements and managing the repair and maintenance programme.
- Project manage any building-related capital projects, including managing responsibility for capital repairs and maintenance, and troubleshooting any remaining MCD building project snags.
- Ensure compliance with all building and safety codes and legislation, insurance requirements, and user requirements (for example, safeguarding and access).
- Drive the provision of a safe working environment, working to develop and maintain a culture of safe working at the Mulryan Centre for Dance, adhering to the Company’s Health and Safety policies at all times.
- Lead on ENB’s environmental responsibility strategy.
- Produce an annual business plan for building management within an affordable budget, resulting in medium/long-term sustainability of building operations.
- Ensure the Building Operations team operate proactively, collaboratively and effectively to deliver a consistent and high-quality service to stakeholders.
- Build a positive culture to have a sustainable, fun and hardworking team of positive and friendly ambassadors for ENB.
- Lead, develop and manage direct reports, ensuring a high standard of work output, professional behaviour and resource management, planning and delivering appropriate levels of training for the team’s learning and development.
- Manage relevant teams to support optimum building operations, and work in partnership with other team heads to enable optimum use of the building.
- Proactively seek to improve processes, educate and support stakeholders, and increase efficiencies so that the building operations teams can create capacity to support the organisation’s strategic priorities.
- Remain up-to-date about best practice and current developments relevant to the role and the sector.

Key Selection Criteria
As the Head of Building Operations you will need to demonstrate that you have:
- Knowledge and understanding of the operational workings of performing arts organisations and the practical requirements for the successful delivery of productions, ideally within the creative industries.
- Experience of managing building operations, facilities management and related responsibilities.
- Knowledge and understanding of building maintenance, health and safety, and building operations legislation, including for a multi-purpose venue.
- Strong project planning skills and the ability to assess workload and capacity for self and team to manage deadlines in line with the schedule.
- Experience of managing and working with multi-disciplinary teams and dealing with a diverse range of staff and client demands.
- Experience of team management and ability to support team development and coaching, feedback reviews, supervision of allocation of duties and rota management, creating an environment where team members can thrive.
