Head of Development


The Head of Development is an exciting opportunity to make a significant mark on Worthing Theatres & Museum by leading the organisation’s fundraising to raise income across both revenue and capital projects. This new role will be an integral member of the Senior Management Team taking an active role in the organisation’s leadership and being an ambassador for WTM. The postholder will work closely with the Executive team to deliver an ambitious fundraising strategy for WTM. You will be responsible for leading the team to raise vital funds integral to achieving WTM’s goals over the coming years. You will champion fundraising at WTM nurturing a culture of fundraising at all levels including with the Board, Senior Management Team and wider staff. The Head of Development will also represent WTM at a senior level with key external stakeholders including (but not limited to) Worthing Borough Council, Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and other key funders and stakeholders. Main Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

Strategy and Leadership

  • Lead on delivering WTM’s fundraising strategy.
  • Work with the Executive team to ensure that the fundraising ambitions of the organisation’s strategic business plan can be met.
  • Work closely with the Board, in particular the Fundraising & Capital Development Committee, to identify how they can best support fundraising.
  • Act as an inspirational leader within the organisation creating a confident, inclusive and ethical fundraising culture at all levels
  • Lead on and manage relationships with key strategic statutory, T&F and individual funders


  • Deliver the fundraising strategy to maximise fundraising potential across all areas of income leading and inspiring the Development team.
  • Develop existing and foster new relationships to increase income from Individual donors, business sponsors, Trust and Foundations, and Statutory sources.
  • Lead on high level capital and revenue Trust and Foundation and Statutory applications including bid writing, reporting and managing relationships with key Trust contacts.
  • Oversee a programme of cultivation and stewardship events making use of WTM’s programme of work.
  • Oversee fundraising administration ensuring all systems and processes comply with the necessary legislation.
  • Develop and maintain fundraising policies and procedures.
