Bluey’s Big Play are looking for a Head of Wardrobe for its UK Tour with some International Dates, and a Christmas season at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.

We are looking for applicants with demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role on a UK tour. The role requires someone who has exceptional people skills, strong communication and organisational skills, ability to lead and manage a team, a positive attitude and a strong aptitude for pastoral care.

Job Description: 

  • Leading on all matters relating to costumes on Bluey’s Big Play. 
  • Overseeing the cleaning and laundering of all costumes in the manner and frequency required to maintain the appearance of all costumes, including the coordination of dry-cleaning. 
  • Being responsible for all repairs on costumes as required. 
  • Maintaining the costumes and accessories to a high standard as instructed by the Designer and Costume Supervisor. 
  • Actioning costume notes made, checking costumes for accuracy and maintaining the master costume bible. 
  • Fitting and altering costumes as needed during the run, including for understudies and cast changes. 
  • Maintaining accurate financial records for Wardrobe costs and obtaining VAT invoices where possible. 
  • Ensuring all wardrobe equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner. 
  • Working collaboratively with all other departments including the theatre technical team to ensure the smooth running of the production. 
  • Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Head of Wardrobe based on industry norms and practice. 

Person Specification: 

  • Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role on tour/West End. 
  • Excellent sewing skills and working knowledge of theatre costumes. 
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written – with excellent attention to detail. 
  • The ability to handle confidential information with discretion. 
  • A calm and proactive approach to technical troubleshooting.  
  • Extensive experience of wardrobe maintenance and dressing actors on productions of similar scale and type. 
  • The ability to work well with actors and creative teams, handling confidential information with discretion. 
  • A respectful approach and consideration of others, bearing in mind the potentially sensitive nature of wardrobe/costume work. 
  • The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritize. 
  • Knowledge of SOLT/BECTU union agreements.
