Bluey’s Big Play is looking for an LX1 for its UK Tour with some International Dates, and a Christmas season at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.

We are looking for applicants with demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role on a UK tour. The role requires someone who has strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail, extensive operational LX and relighting experience and excellent technical skills, with particular focus on lighting practices and a calm and practical approach to technical troubleshooting.

Job Description: 

• To operate the lighting desk for all performances and rehearsals; and call local follow spots.  
• Directly manage the Tech Swings in conjunction with the Company Stage Manager and Technical Stage Manager.  
• Responsible for relighting the production at each venue as per the Designer’s plans. 
• Proactive member of the technical team and support the wider team. 
• Assist the Production Manager and Production Electrician to co-ordinate the hire and preparation of equipment and venue supplies, in tech and throughout the tour.  
• To take over from the Production Electrician after the fit-up and before the get-out, taking particular responsibility for dealing with the lighting practical elements. 
• Learn all checks and maintenance of lighting fixtures and practicals to provide absence cover for other members of your department as necessary and to ensure the smooth running of the show. 
• Assist the Production Electrician with show re-light and update focus positions with company at each new venue with particular attention to maintaining the artistic quality of the original lighting design. 
• Ensure all lighting equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner. 
• Compile and keep up to date with all necessary paperwork, both hard copy and digital. 
• To provide technical support for all rehearsals while on tour including all understudy and cast change sessions. 
• To account for and support the administration of petty cash for LX Department spends, obtaining where possible VAT invoices for any hires and purchases made through petty cash. 
• Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of an LX1 based on industry norms and practice. 

Person Specification: 

Essential Skills/Experience 

• Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role on tour.  
• Have experience of programming and operating intelligent lighting control systems with specific experience of EOS systems, media servers and Disguise. 
• Strong all-round technical background with particular knowledge of LX. 
• The ability to work well with actors and creative teams. 
• A calm and practical approach to technical troubleshooting. 
• Relighting experience.  

Desirable Skills/Experience 

• Working knowledge of SOLT, BECTU and Equity union agreements.
