Responsibilities
  • Act as head of department for the sound department. 
  • To ensure the smooth running & operations of the audio elements of the production.
  • To run and oversee the sound load out during the weekly venue moves.
  • To ensure the smooth running of the production on a daily basis, including running daily system checks and regular maintenance sessions.
  • To look ahead at venues and raise any questions or concerns.
  • To manage the Sound No.2. 
  • To execute sound cues during public performances and monitor the audio systems distributed across the site.
  • To mix live inputs throughout the production and to liaise with guest artists and dep musicians as required.
  • To ensure the sound system is kept in good working order to allow for smooth show running and liaise with the Production.
  • Manage team and Sound Designer as required.
  • To attend production meetings representing the sound department.
  • To oversee the Manager’s hired and owned equipment; including microphones, loudspeakers & consumables and to ensure these are kept in good condition with regular maintenance, ordering replacements if necessary in conjunction with the Production Manager.
  • To train and manage the Sound No.2 and any deps on the mix of the show. 
  • Report daily to the Company Manager. 
  • Take a lead on daily maintenance during show calls.
  • Take a lead and organise all preventative maintenance calls as regularly as the management team sees fit. Fill out reports provided for maintenance. 
  • To undertake rigorous pre show checks and ensure all equipment is in good working order. 
  • To liaise with other technical departments and CSM/TSM to ensure clear lines of communication for the smooth running of the show,
  • To be responsible, alongside the CSM, for supervising and scheduling staff within the sound department, including technical swings and deputy operators, as required.
  • To ensure the Sound Department are maintaining the instruments used by band and cast.
  • To uphold the high production standards expected on a first-class production and the artistic quality required by the sound designer.
  • To carry out all other duties normally associated with the role of Sound No.1 on a first-class production.
  • Attend rehearsal, technical, dress and understudy rehearsals as required.
  • Comply with the Manager’s Health and Safety and other policies at all times.
  • Ensure all instruments are kept maintained and in good working condition at all times. Work alongside the Sound No.2 to manage and log all instrument maintenance and care. 
  • Lead on all pre production prep, managing the kit, logistics and the freelance staff.

  • Flexible and self-motivated with the ability to work well with actors, musicians, and other venue staff.
  • A calm and practical approach to technical trouble-shooting.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication and organisational skills
