The touring of theatre and performing arts across the UK is essential for audiences, and for our industry.
Discussions at the Theatre and Touring Symposium 2018 made clear that the producing, presenting and touring ecology in the UK has changed considerably in recent years.
UK Theatre and Society of London Theatre (SOLT) committed to explore the new operating context and to facilitate contemporary, consistent and clear ways of working.
Between November 2018 and May 2019, Rachel Tackley and Vicky Graham worked with us to bring together Presenting and Producing contributors from across the theatre and performing arts sector. Forums were held to understand each other’s operating context, discuss wider issues effecting touring and to suggest resources to improve the situation. We also talked with colleagues across the sector including the UK Arts Councils, ITC and the League of Independent Producers.
On 5 June 2019 UK Theatre and SOLT published the Producing, Presenting and Touring Handbook as a result of these conversations. The version below was updated on the 24 June 2019.
