Job Specification
The Deputy Master Carpenter will be required to assist the Stage Department in all matters relating to the staging of shows and the maintenance and improvement of the building.

We are looking for a positive and pro-active individual to join the Stage Department at The Phoenix Theatre in the role of Deputy Master Carpenter. The successful candidate will become an essential component of our technical department and will be a true team player. They will be relied upon to take up all aspects of stage carpentry, both in production and during regular building maintenance. 
As Deputy Master Carpenter you will be someone who is confident making decisions and putting their thoughts and ideas forward. In the absence of the Master Carpenter you will be responsible for working directly with the Theatre Manager to achieve the venue’s objectives; taking into account relevant budgets, contractor requirements and the needs of the resident production. 
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their technical theatre career with a step into this Stage Department leadership role. 
Key responsibilities 
• To assist the Stage Department in the safe and efficient get-in, fit-up and get-out of all productions. To work 
  closely with production staff to ensure the smooth running of productions. 
• To physically assist with the implementation of planned preventative maintenance and running maintenance 
  procedures.  To ensure that all maintenance work is safe and complies with current Licensing, Fire, Building and 
Health & Safety Legislation. 
• To ensure that Stage areas are kept in good order and repair and that all staging equipment and tools are 
  maintained to retain a safe and smooth-running operation. 
• To assist the department in updating and maintaining Stage Department and Production risk assessments and 
  ensure that they are signed by relevant staff. 
• To attend training courses as required for both self-development and the requirements of the company. 
• To adhere to all Health & Safety procedures to minimise the risk of injury and accidents. 
• In The absence of the Master Carpenter to step up and work in consultation with the Theatre Manager and 
  Production Manager on staff recruitment, training and scheduling. 
• In the absence of the Master Carpenter to advise the Theatre Manager and Production Manager on technical 
  matters and building requirements, working within the budget constraints. 
• To assist the Theatre Manager in organising the servicing of venue equipment and keeping the Property 
  Register up to date and accurate with certificates of completed services. 
• To complete any other reasonable delegated duty that assists the Company in the achievement of its business 
Essential Requirements: 
• Previous experience working in technical theatre. 
• Passion for delivering a top quality live theatre experience. 
Desirable Qualities: 
• Have a broad knowledge of Health and Safety including COSHH, LOLER & PUWER. 
• First Aid at Work Training.
