Chair of the Board

Rifco Theatre Company
Job Specification
Rifco Theatre Company – the next five years
Artistic Director, Pravesh Kumar, has planned an ambitious journey over the next five years and the board is looking for someone who is ready to take on the challenge of leading this next stage.
2019-2024 is a period that will include our twentieth anniversary, Rifco 2020, a move in to commercialisation of our work, a search for a larger base and a serious push from the board to increase and diversify income.
2020 marks Rifco’s twentieth anniversary and we are planning a year of celebration with both larger, signature productions alongside smaller more intimate events. The programme of events will launch with the British Asian Festival over the first weekend in June 2020. This will be followed by a major new play from Asif Khan, Jamil’s Legendary Stag Night, a dark comedy opening in Watford in September and then touring. The anniversary year will culminate in June 2021 with Rifco’s new, bold, British, Bollywood musical, Frankie Goes to Bollywood.
Options for commercialising our work are high in the next five years, particularly with the hugely saleable musical title, Frankie Goes to Bollywood. We are very keen to capitalise on this opportunity as it will lead to more people seeing the work and the potential to earn income. With the right structures in place, this new musical could be taken up by a commercial producer for West End or national touring.
Rifco is Resident Company at Watford Palace Theatre (WPT) and both organisations benefit significantly. The major winner, of course, is our audience, which continues to grow. However, with a growing team, office space is at a premium and Rifco is looking for an opportunity to develop a larger space, either at WPT or elsewhere.
Our fundraised income has grown significantly over the past three years. However, there is much still to do and the Board and the Chair have a crucial role to play in sharing their networks and advocating for the company to a wide variety of individual and commercial partners.
