Manchester Theatres
£24,000 - £29,000 per annum
Job Specification
From the World’s first industrial city to a multicultural urban paradise, Manchester is bursting with history and culture. At its heart are the Palace Theatre and Opera House, venues which epitomise everything that Manchester and Mancunians are about. Steeped in rich heritage, they continued to grow and evolve and have become vital landmarks of the city, ultimately becoming two of the North-West’s premier entertainment venues and key assets within the Greater Manchester tourism and cultural economies.
For over a hundred years, they have played host to a wide range of acclaimed performances and world premieres, attracting theatregoers to the city from across the North-West and beyond, often being cited by generations of Mancunians as their first experience of live theatre.
Creative Learning is a dynamic department which delivers a high-quality programme of award-winning cultural education which is locally driven, with national significance!  You join the UK team of Creative Learning departments at a pivotal moment. Following a phase of organisational development responsive to the impact of the pandemic, Creative Learning at ATG are driven by focus on DIVERSITY, RELEVANCE & RESILENCE in all that we do. We want to ensure our work is relevant for a changed world, sustainable and accessible.
See our 2018-19 story here.
The Creative Learning Producer will be a passionate, multi-faceted and talented individual; an innovative leader who will consciously ensure that the local Creative Learning programme responds to the needs and opportunities of the area with ingenuity, finesse, and integrity.
The Creative Learning Producer will support exciting new strategic audience development projects, partnership ventures, as well as ensuring a long term sustained programme for a diverse range of local participants.
An awareness of the local cultural and education landscape will be important, as we ensure the work of Creative Learning adds value and is supportive of the wider ecology. The Manchester Creative Learning programme will compliment the wider cultural offer and reflect local needs and opportunities; with an interest in partnership working and in support of relevant local agenda.
Working closely with the Manchester Palace & Opera House Trust, you will deliver their charitable objectives through producing and spearheading the development, launch and delivery of an inaugural Manchester Creative Learning programme.
The Creative Learning programme will open up our theatres, and what goes on inside them. Through the work of the new Creative Learning department, you will transform the venues into places where a new generation of Mancunians can play, learn, explore and discover what theatre and performance means for them.
Over the first 3 years, the programme is expected to involve a breadth of activity, covering 4 programme areas; in response to the charity objectives of the Manchester palace and Opera House Trust, including:
SHOW RELATED: closely working with high profile commercial and subsidised sector producers, and their productions which play to our audiences, through inspired & topical programmes and audience development initiatives.
SCHOOLS: Creative Careers Days & targeted Schools Partnership programmes reaching areas of need.
TALENT: Talent development initiatives with an emphasis on young people from less affluent backgrounds.
COMMUNITY: A programme of community events to welcome and engage everyone. This will look to include Arts in heritage projects that celebrate the rich history of the venues, as well as initiatives which respond to the needs and opportunities of the locality, to complement and add value to the wider cultural ecology.
At a venue level you are supported by skilled and enthusiastic Technical, Operations, Ticketing, Marketing and Communications teams who will work in partnership to achieve the goals of your business plan. For further details, please download a copy of our job description.
