We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated, proactive, and focused individual to take on the role of Head of Stage and to join a highly collaborative and friendly Back of House team at the Phoenix Theatre. The successful candidate will have suitable experience in a Theatre Back of House Stage department role, working with and supporting others and have proven team management skills. You will be able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of current health and safety legislation and show an exemplary understanding of safe working practices in relation to stage, it’s connected disciplines, including rigging/flying, and associated areas . You will be a great team player with first-rate communication skills with the ability to lead a department, teach and share knowledge, receive instruction, prioritise tasks, delegate and meet deadlines
As the Head of Stage you'll lead on all aspects of stage infrastructure within the theatre relating to both the production and the building, taking a lead on production stage and carpentry requirements. Working closely with the Technical & Buildings Manager, you will ensure there is an efficient, cost effective and robust maintenance plan in place and delivered, meeting operational and compliance needs from a stage and venue maintenance perspective. You'll work closely with Technical and Buildings Manager, visiting production and show management to ensure a smooth and safe get in, fit up and get out, providing the highest standard of service for the visiting company. You will assist and support the current production to maintain the look of the show and its high standards, on top of this you will facilitate and work on any new or one-off productions or events at the Phoenix theatre.
To succeed in this role you will need to work closely with all venue departments and the wider venue team in continuing to develop effective working relationships with our visiting companies, colleagues in London theatres and ATG's central services as well as contractors and suppliers; great people skills are as important as technical ability for this position. There's a good balance in the role between practical technical work, venue maintenance and management of the department; please note regular evening and weekend work will be required.
