Job Specification
MAST Mayflower Studios and Mayflower Engage:

MAST, approaching its first Birthday in May 2022, is a multi-art form cultural hub
presenting and producing theatre, dance, musicals, music, comedy, circus, cabaret,
spoken word, visual arts and family shows. We are community-led, with engagement
and consultation at the heart of everything we do.

We work with the best touring companies and local artists to present a diverse, vibrant,
high-quality artistic programme, alongside our own productions and co-productions.
Mayflower Theatre is the biggest theatre on the south coast with just over 2,270 seats in
our auditorium. Our aim is to bring a diverse range of shows to Southampton, and we
present a mixture of spectacular touring productions, from musicals - many direct from
the West End – to dance, opera, drama, ballet and comedy.

Across both venues, our Community and outreach programme - Engage - works
throughout the community giving opportunities to take part and develop both future
audiences and future theatre makers. Our focus within our Community work is all about
connecting with groups who may not currently be accessing theatre or arts opportunities,
and creating exciting programmes of work which seek to remove barriers to
engagement.

Our Community Exhibition Takeovers:

MAST Mayflower Studios are excited to once again be able to offer our Community
Exhibition Takeover project, this coming Christmas. Our takeovers allow us to connect
community groups with local artists to create exciting art installations that help us to turn
our building into the magical world of our Christmas performance. This year’s exhibition
will focus on transforming our building into “Wonderland”, as our performances this
Christmas include two brand new productions:
Alice, A Musical Adventure in Wonderland and Down the Rabbit Hole.

Our previous 2021 Community Exhibition Takeover was based on our performance of
Peter Pan, An Awfully Big Musical Adventure, and focused on turning our building into
“Neverland”. Within this project, we engaged with over 360 members of our local
community to create pieces such as the Lost Ones Dens, a Starry Night Sky and a 5-
metre-long Crocodile! Throughout this project we worked with groups such as young
carers, refugees, asylum seekers, local primary schools, and adults living with dementia.

All participants who take part in the project will be involved in a drama workshop
delivered by the Mayflower Engage team, which will explore the storyline of Alice in
Wonderland ahead of their art workshops.

pieces must be robust, safe for interaction with the public and flame
retardant.

This work will involve delivering a full day of art workshops on
