Job Specification
Opera North is a world-class opera company based in Leeds, serving diverse communities across the North of England with fully staged opera and music theatre, symphonic concerts, an inclusive learning and participation programme and innovative creative projects, all providing performance opportunities for visiting artists from many genres, disciplines and backgrounds.
As the company emerges from an £18 million capital project, welcoming audiences to its refurbished and extended premises, it is seeking to appoint a new Executive Director.
Reporting to the General Director, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall daily smooth-running and business planning of the organisation, overseeing its financial management, operations, marketing and communications, development, people, and culture, and playing a key role in aligning these departments in support of the work on stage and in the community. Leading the implementation of company values and organisational change, embedding EDI across all areas of the company, and developing and maximising the commercial potential of the new facilities, will be key aspects of the Executive Director’s role.
The ideal candidate will be a senior manager in an organisation of scale and complexity in the arts, culture, entertainment, or associated sectors, with experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams. A track record in business planning and financial management, excellent interpersonal, motivational and communication skills, and proven success in generating income from a variety of traditional fundraising and commercial sources, are all essential requirements for the post.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Opera North at a pivotal moment in its history in a critical and influential role, supporting the artistic vision and enabling the company to achieve its ambitious future plans.
