Job Specification
We are looking for two multi skilled Theatre Technicians who will be responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects, including staging, flying, lighting, sound and video aspects of all performances, event and activities in the Playhouse run smoothly and to schedule. These are a 6-month fixed term contract, and a full-time permanent contract.
Key Responsibilities
• To carry out work associated with, getting in, fitting up, running, striking or getting out of productions & events taking place in the theatre, performance and event spaces.
• Set up and operate lighting, sound and multimedia equipment for performance and event.
• Set up and operate flying and rigging systems including hemp set, powered flying bars, manual and electric hoists.
• Liaise with relevant departments and individuals as required and when assigned work in roles such as duty technician, lighting designer or sound designer.
• Provide technical and creative support to all users of the theatre and performance and learning spaces.
• Assist during production weeks to ensure the production, rehearsals and production process run smoothly.
• Provide first-line maintenance support for all relevant technical equipment, machines, furniture, fixtures and fittings.
• Ensure all equipment is used and stored safely.
• To undertake maintenance duties across the building and other spaces used by Shakespeare North Trust as required.
• Ensure the workplace adheres to health and safety requirements and maintain an excellent standard of housekeeping.
• Ensure all health and safety requirements are adhered to by staff, freelancers & visitors in the use of the theatre, performances and event spaces and produce.
• Attend training as required and maintain awareness of health and safety regulations specific to the spaces and equipment used.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties, commensurate with the level of the post to ensure the smooth running of Shakespeare North Playhouse.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
• Strong, proven experience in stage, flying and rigging, lighting, sound or video and have a good working knowledge of the other disciplines.
• Up to date knowledge of stage, flying, rigging, lighting equipment and its maintenance.
• Up to date knowledge of digital audio and audio-visual equipment and its use in relation to live, recorded and play-back techniques.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly and consistently with all theatre and event space users, especially non-technical users.
• Highly organized with successful experience in meeting deadlines and managing conflicting priorities
• Experience in implementing health and safety requirements and risk assessments
• Confident in manual-handling/heavy lifting of theatre equipment, working at height and able to do so safely.
• Confident in working independently but also willing to collaborate across many departments and work as part of a team.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, overnight and weekends as required.
• A passion and commitment to the Arts.
