Are you interested in FREE accredited construction training and a PAID work placement in exciting London locations? 
 
Role title: CHANGE THE SCRIPT : Technical Trainee 
 
Description of the role: Change the Script is a brand new, unique and exciting training and employment programme in London’s West End, providing unemployed Central London residents (Westminster, Camden, Islington, Southwark, Lambeth, Kensington & Chelsea, Wandsworth and City of London) with the opportunity to achieve recognised accreditations and paid work experience. 
 
Participants will undertake three weeks of free interactive pre-employment training at the Earls Court Skills Centre to attain a CSCS card and other practical certifications and then spend four weeks putting that learning into practice at an iconic Wates construction site in Piccadilly Circus, as well as experiencing multiple Ambassador Theatre Group world-class theatre settings. 
 
The training will be tailored to prepare participants for a successful work placement at Lucent experiencing different trades, as well as the often hidden ‘off stage’ roles in a theatre. 
 
Successful completion of the seven-week programme could lead to securing sustainable employment or an apprenticeship in a construction trade or a technical theatre-based support role. 
 
Timings: 
 
Pre-employment training pre-registration in person – 2nd March 2023 
Pre-employment training and CSCS card accreditation – 6th March 2023 – 21st April 2023 
Paid work experience – 27th March 2023 – 21st April 2023 
Eligibility criteria: 
 
No previous experience in construction or theatres is needed. 
 
A resident in the UK/Europe for at least the last three years 
Aged 18+ 
A resident of Westminster, Camden, Islington, Southwark, Lambeth, Kensington & Chelsea, Wandsworth and City of London 
Unemployed and in receipt of a work-related benefit 
Photographic ID 
Able to commit to attending the required times for the full duration of the programme (absence not permitted) 
This opportunity is open to ten individuals meeting the above criteria, but priority will be given to care leavers, those with experience of homelessness or who are long-term unemployed. 
 
Qualifications attained: 
 
Level 1 Cskills Health and safety in a construction environment 
Certificate in basic construction skills (with bespoke practical sessions) 
Personal wellbeing in construction 
Environmental awareness & sustainability 
CSCS test which is the passport to the industry 
First Steps into Construction 
Locations: 
 
Southwark Skills Centre – Surrey Quays Road, Canada Water, London, SE16 7PJ 
One week at Wates’ Lucent site – Denman Street, off Shaftesbury Avenue 
Three weeks at ATG’s West End Theatres 
Salary: Four weeks of work experience paid at £11.05 PAYE per hour. Daily contribution towards travel costs of £10 per day, as well as a brand-new pair of safety boots (please provide your size as part of the application process). 
 
Hours: 8.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday (including one hour of unpaid break time).
