One of UK Theatre’s strengths is our commitment to high employment standards and our positive relationships with the unions: Equity, Musicians’ Union, and BECTU.
During 2012-16 UK Theatre and these unions started a programme of work focused on the revision of the collective agreements. This includes the development of a package of core conditions of employment, applicable to all employees, and has been designed to enable easier understanding and administration of the terms and conditions of employment.
Three working parties including representatives of UK Theatre, Equity, Musicians’ Union and BECTU are now reviewing specific sections of the agreements: Touring and Subsistence allowances, Pensions and Equality and Diversity, to seek to establish common approaches across the agreements in these areas.
A joint UK Theatre/ BECTU working party is now undertaking a comprehensive review of the terms of the collective agreement. Its aim is to ensure the agreement reflects the diversity of roles, activity and employers covered and to fairly reflect the working practices of theatres in our membership. This work will also inform the development of the package of core conditions for all employees.
