Essentials of Marketing

Essentials of Marketing is the leading entry-level arts marketing course in the UK. The course aims to equip junior arts marketers with the essential knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake their marketing responsibilities in a better and more fulfilling way whilst developing a support network of peers.

Formerly known as Druidstone, since 1984 it has produced generations of professionals who have gone to the be the Marketing Managers and Marketing Directors of today.

The course takes places at Waddow Hall in Clitheroe, a 17th Century manor house overlooking the River Ribble and set in 178 acres of enchanting Lancashire countryside.

Effective Management & Leadership

Being a manager can be a challenge. People who are good at their jobs frequently get promoted to become managers, but managing others requires a different set of skills to those needed for actually doing the work yourself. Those skills do not come naturally; they need to be learned.

If your work involves achieving success through the work of others, whether it be backstage, front of house, marketing or administration, this course is for you.

Over 5 energetic days the programme will cover; developing your style as a new leader, management, understanding yourself and others, working with partners and teams,strategic management tools, working with people, identifying problems, finance, managing yourself and managing change. 

At the end of this course you will:

  • Know how to develop as a leader, to use the techniques to successfully manage yourself and others, feel confident to influence decisions, make valuable and reasoned contributions and understand best practice to problem solving
  • Be able to understand your management style and team dynamics and be able to get the most out of your staff, be able to understand how to manage change and manage others during a period of change and learn the key skills to becoming a successful leader

The course is suitable for:

  • Those who are new to a leadership or management role

  • Current leaders and managers looking to develop their skills

  • Managers who have had no formal management training in the past

The course provides a framework of skills that can be adapted and directly applied by delegates back in their workplace. Specific topics covered are likely to include digital marketing, social media, press & PR, research and effective copywriting. The format will be a mixture of full group lectures and workshops and small, informal tutorial groups of no more than 8 people. There will also be plenty of opportunity to seek advice and guidance from the individual tutors, all of whom are practising senior professionals within the industry.

This course is suitable for:    

  •   Those with between six months and two years’ experience in arts marketing, ideally working in a performing arts context       

At the end of this course you will:

Be provided with an ideal toolkit for today’s arts marketer and have a thorough grounding in thefollowing areas:

 Understanding and targeting audiences strategic campaign planning

  • Allocating resources
