Duties and Responsibilities
• To assist the Production Manager and Production Sound Engineer to co-ordinate the hire and preparation of equipment and venue supplies throughout the tour;
• To take particular responsibility for dealing with the system maintenance;
• To supervise the load in and load out of each venue;
• To programme and operate the production’s sound control system during rehearsals and performance;
• To mix the show on a nightly basis;
• To cover the Sound 2 plot for their one mix show per week; duties include fitting radio mics and backstage troubleshooting;
• To lead on all Sound department system maintenance;
• To uphold the high production standards set by the Sound Designer and maintain the artistic quality of the original design;
• To ensure all sound equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner;
• To provide technical support for all rehearsals while on tour including all understudy and cast change sessions;
• To work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production;
• To compile and keep up-to-date all necessary show paperwork both hard copy and digital;
• To account for and support the administration of petty cash for Sound Department spends, obtaining where possible VAT invoices for any hires and purchases made through petty cash;
• To adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures put in place by the Production and take an active lead in upholding this within your department;
• Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Sound No.1 based on industry norms and practice.
Person Specification
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
• A proactive and flexible attitude;
• Extensive operational Sound experience and excellent technical skills, with particular focus on live mixing skills with a proven track record of dealing with complex radio mic shows;
• Have experience of programming and operating digital sound control systems;
• Have experience of live mixing large scale theatrical productions, radio mics, live music and line by line speech;
• Previous experience of UK Touring;
• Previous experience of working as part of a team;
• The ability to work well with actors and creative team;
• The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
• Awareness of current health & safety legislation;
