Job Description
- To attend cast change rehearsals and/or fittings as required or directed by the Head of Wardrobe (HoW), Costume Supervisor or Costume Designer, including for SwAlts
- To maintain the quality of the original designs of the Production and uphold high professional standards at all times in all aspects of your role
- To assist in the running of the Wardrobe department
- To manage the maintenance of the costumes, including repairs as lead by the HoW and assisted by the Wardrobe Assistant
- To assist with the laundry of the costumes and arrangement of dry cleaning as appropriate
- To support the HoW in managing the department schedule, including deps
- To assist the cast with dressing for each performance as needed
- To assist with a quick-change moment during performances
- To learn all plots within your department and to deputise for the HoW when required
- To assist in overseeing and training the Wardrobe Assistant & wardrobe deps as required
- To assist in the ordering and replenishing of departmental supplies, obtaining where possible VAT receipts and providing these to the HoW in a timely manner
- To work alongside your team, other technical departments, stage management, actors, band and creative team members to ensure the efficient flow of information for the smooth running of the show
- To ensure the safest possible working environment at all times, and that all Health and Safety procedure and practice, are adhered to
- To assist in compiling and keeping updated show paperwork, both digital and hard copy
- Working in accordance with the Producer’s Health & Safety policy, which may include any training deemed necessary
- Complying at all times with the rules and regulations in force at the venue and under the control of the Production
- Having a practical understanding of the Producer’s employment policies and demonstrating a willingness to comply with these policies
- Any other duties that would normally fall within the remit of the role
Person Specification
- Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role in the West End or on Tour, which includes dressing actors and wardrobe maintenance;
- Knowledge and experience of the working practices of a West End production;
- Excellent sewing skills;
- Experience with theatrical costume and a good knowledge of working with a range of materials;
- Experience of costume maintenance;
- Be prepared to undertake physically demanding tasks;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
- Respectful approach and consideration of others, bearing in mind the potentially sensitive nature of wardrobe / costume work;
- A proactive and flexible attitude;
- The ability to work well under pressure and effectively prioritise;
- The ability to work well in a team and independently;
- Experience of working closely with actors and creative teams;
- Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation;
- Knowledge of SOLT BECTU agreements.
