Role: Tech Swing (Stage/SM Dept Cover)

Contract: Fixed term, touring

Contract Dates: Starts W/C 09 November 2026 with tech at Plymouth Theatre Royal. The first public performance is scheduled to be on Monday 16 November and the contract will terminate following the final performance in Edinburgh on Saturday 8 May 2027.

Weekly Salary: £894.27

Allowances: We follow the Equity / CTA rate for living away allowance which is currently £350 per week for accommodation for each touring week (including any London performance weeks) that is more than 25 miles from your home address.  This rate is due to be increased but we are yet to receive that from Equity so we will inform you when we have that information.

Subsistence: As above, the Equity / CTA rate is currently 65% of the Living Away Allowance for each week of rehearsals if you live outside London and can’t commute.

About the Role

You will under the role of Technical Swing with a Stage bias. You will provide flexible support across the stage department. This includes the safe and efficient operation of stage machinery, carpentry and scenery.

You will work primarily with the Stage team on get-ins and get-outs, help manage local crew as required and assist in the safe and organised loading and unloading of trailers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Touring Head of Stage in all preparations for the show, including maintenance, rehearsals and daily setup.
  • Support the Stage departments during load-ins and get outs.
  • Participate in rigging and safety checks as required.
  • Collaborate with the local crew in safe operation of all scenery and set pieces.
  • Deputise for either the Head Carpenter or Head of Stage to allow for days off or in cases of illness.
  • Assist with the execution of truck packs, ensuring safe and efficient loading/unloading.
  • Learn and be confident in running show plots for Stage or Carpentry departments.
  • Support the maintenance and upkeep of all relevant equipment to ensure it remains in safe working order throughout the run.
  • Assist and be prepared to cover within the Stage Management team as required.
  • Attend rehearsals where required, particularly those involving technical or automation changes.
  • Always adhere to the Company’s health and safety procedures.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Confident and adaptable individual with experience working with stage departments.
  • Confident in working busy touring environments.
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of carpentry.
  • Ability to learn and retain technical cues, plots and show tracks quickly.
  • Confident working independently while also being a strong team player.
  • Touring experience is desirable.
