We are seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Makeup to join the production on its UK Tour. Start Date: September 2026
Contract Length: 18 Months
Salary: Buyout/Competitive

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Responsible for aspects of planning, supervision and maintenance of wigs, hair and make-up for the show, including performances, press/marketing photography and press/marketing performances, ensuring the Designer’s original specification and the production’s look are maintained.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, particularly the Wardrobe department, to ensure the smooth running of the show.
  • Ensure all wigs are cleaned and dressed daily and in working order for each performance.
  • Deputise for the HOD WHAM if needed.
  • Assist the HOD as requested, which may include coordinating the supply of all equipment and consumables required to run the

    show within budget, as approved by the Company/General Manager.

  • Cut and style hair as required.
  • Liaise with the HOD to prepare for daily cast changes and adjust wigs, hair and make-up accordingly.
  • Attend rehearsals, technical, dress and costume understudy rehearsals as required.
  • Deal with emergency repairs to wigs.
  • Ensure that work materials and all wigs are kept tidy and secure.
  • Ensure that security, safety and good housekeeping procedures for the department are properly carried out.
  • Comply with the Manager’s Health and Safety and other policies at all times.
  • Report to the Costume Supervisor, Company Manager and General Manager on the department.
  • Assist the department with load-in and load-out duties. •

    Person Specification

    Essential

  • Previous Deputy/Assistant experience on a large-scale production is essential
  • Extensive experience with styling and dressing wigs and hair for live performance/theatre
  • The ability to work as part of a large team
  • Good communication skills

    Desirable

  • Experience managing a team effectively
  • Experience barbering would be a bonus but is not essential

Positions will be working over a 7 day 6 weekly rotational shift pattern and there will be a mixture of rota days off and weekend working. The hours of operation are between 8.45am – 8pm Mon to Sat, then 10.45am – 8.00pm Sun with shifts set a week in advance. Overtime is offered as and when required.
