Summary

The purpose of this role is to assist the Wigs, Hair & Make up team in the smooth operation of the department. Ensuring good communication and high standards in the realisation of wigs and make-up designs for Opera North.

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Application of wigs/facial hair and hair styling before a performance and during quick changes.
  • Application of all aspects of makeup associated with theatre.
  • Assisting with the preparation and daily maintenance of all show wigs [modern and period] as required and to maintain the departments high standards.
  • Acquiring a familiarity with all show plots to allow for absence cover for others in the team and make accurate notes for others.
  • Attending all rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get ins, fit ups, get outs as scheduled.
  • Always complying with the department/company/venue Health & safety requirements.

Person Specification:

Experience/ skills required:

 

  • Previous experience working as a Wigs, Hair & Make Up assistant in theatre and touring is essential.
  • Previous experience of preparation and application of prosthetics.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Level 2 Barbering

Terms & Conditions:

 

Contract type: Fixed Term, Full Time (2 months)

 

Salary: £640 per week

 

Hours of work: An average of 44 hours per week, across the contracted period

 

Place of work: you will be based at Howard Opera Centre, Leeds (you’ll be expected to travel to other venues as part of the role also).
