Role: Stage Manager

Contract: Fixed term, touring

Contract Dates: Starts w/c 11 January 2027 at Sadler’s Wells, London. The contract will terminate following the final performance in Edinburgh on Saturday 8 May 2027.

Weekly Salary: £1005.80

Allowances: We follow the Equity / CTA rate for living away allowance which is currently £350 per week for accommodation for each touring week (including any London performance weeks) that is more than 25 miles from your home address.  This rate is due to be increased but we are yet to receive that from Equity so we will inform you when we have that information.

Subsistence: As above, the Equity / CTA rate is currently 65% of the Living Away Allowance for each week of rehearsals if you live outside London and can’t commute.

About the Role

You will undertake the role of Stage Manager.  As Stage Manager you are responsible for the overall safety and smooth running of the stage production in rehearsal, in performance and have responsibilities that range from supervising all performers and all performance crew, running technical rehearsals, operating scenery and props, managing local crew when required, and ensuring the safe running of the show.

Key Responsibilities:

• To be responsible for all aspects of the planning, supervision and construction of all scenery and props into each venue, maintaining the intentions of the creative team.
• To be responsible for the safe working practice of your department and of all the performers on stage, the safe use of equipment ensuring that codes of practice and current regulations are adhered to and to supervise the local stage crew in the safe operation of all scenery and stage effects.
• To provide and manage a clean, safe and well-organised and safe physical working environments in areas used by the dancers.

• Attend rehearsals, prep, get-ins and outs and all performances unless on a scheduled day off as required.
• To run the rehearsal rooms in liaison with the Production Manager, Company Manager and creative team ensuring clear and prompt communication with all departments on any notes and changes required.
• To order consumables and props / set replacements as necessary.
• Ensure props and scenery are kept in safe working order.

• To run the deck during technical rehearsals and performances as required
• To oversee the DSM and ASMs.
• To ensure your department is adequately covered, including learning other stage plots yourself as appropriate.
• To prepare all set / props / cue sheets and paperwork to allow for the proper archiving of the production once the production is set.
• Oversee class in rotation with the Company Manager and ASM and set equipment for that as required.
• Adhere to the health and safety guidelines of the Company.
• Any other duties as may be reasonably required in the course of your duties or as instructed by the Producers from time to time.

What we’re looking for:

• An experienced Stage Manager with strong touring and/or large-scale production experience.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and support DSMs, ASMs and local stage crews.
• A strong understanding of stage, scenery, props and stage effects, with excellent attention to detail.
• A proactive approach to health, safety and safe working practices.
• Confident working under pressure and able to problem-solve quickly and calmly in a busy touring environment.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage paperwork, cue sheets, set/props documentation and production requirements.
• A collaborative team player who can build positive relationships with performers, creative teams, production staff and venue crews.
• Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and cover other stage plots and support the wider company when required.
