Deputy Head of Stage – MEAN GIRLS

Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for full-time, experienced Deputy Head of Stage to work on the London production of MEAN GIRLS.

Book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin and directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw – the musical opened in the West End in June 2024.

The Deputy Head of Stage will work closely with the Head of Stage, Stage Manager and Company Manager in executing the stage needs of the production.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to support and deputise for the Head of Stage. Candidates should be able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure as well as having strong organisational and time management qualities to ensure that the production runs efficiently and smoothly.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the daily running of the production, in conjunction with the Head of Stage and the Stage Management Team.
  • Assisting in the running of the stage department and managing of stage crew in conjunction with the Head of Stage, including department scheduling.
  • Keeping the stage, dock and backstage areas clean and safe, and ensuring entrances and exits are well maintained and kept clear.
  • Carrying out maintenance of set and prop elements and informing the Stage Manager if further work from outside contractors is required.
  • Working with other departments to maintain the show to the highest possible standards.

Essential experience includes:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience as Deputy Head of Stage on a large-scale West End production.
  • Experience of managing a stage crew.
  • Experience running deck plots and an understanding of stage etiquette.
  • An understanding and practical knowledge of the principles and safe working practices of theatre rigging, automation systems and set construction.
  • Advanced stage carpentry skills.

  • Job Location: Savoy Theatre
  • Contract Type: Fixed term until Sunday 8th June 2025, or for the run of the Production, whichever shall be the shorter, subject to two weeks’ notice by the Producer as per the SOLT/BECTU Agreement.
  • Salary: Weekly rate as per SOLT/BECTU Agreement.
  • Weekly Hours: 6 day working weeks; 8 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls.
