SOLT & UK Theatre welcome new capital investment in theatres

Commenting on the announcement that Government has granted funding to theatres, and other cultural venues, as part of its Arts Everywhere Fund, SOLT & UK Theatre Co-CEO Claire Walker said:

“This is a welcome investment in theatre buildings across the country, and a clear recognition of their cultural, economic, and civic value.

“Theatres bring people together, support local economies, create skilled jobs, and widen access to creativity. This funding will help address urgent building needs, improve access, modernise venues, and keep theatres welcoming audiences for generations to come.

“But the capital need remains substantial. The recent DCMS-commissioned Purcell report identified more than £4 billion of necessary repair and maintenance across theatres and performance spaces in England.

“We look forward to the next funding round opening at pace, so that many more theatres can benefit and deliver lasting impact for audiences, artists, and communities.”
