Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for an experienced Assistant Director to work on the 2026 London reimagined one part production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this new play by Jack Thorne and Directed by John Tiffany received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.
Your duties and responsibilities will be those normally expected of an Assistant Director on a first-class West End production.
You will work closely with the Associate Director, Associate Movement Director and Resident Movement Director across recast, technical and understudy rehearsals, supporting them to simultaneously rehearse new and continuing company members and maintain the quality of the performances.

17th August – 27th September Recast Rehearsals
28th September – 8th October Technical Rehearsals
9th October – First Performance
19th October – 4th December Cover Rehearsals (three days per week)
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Script supervision, Rehearsal supervision and support, Liaising with company management to support with scheduling, Gathering and sharing research materials, Liaising with creatives and technical departments, Supporting with young company rehearsal during the recast period, supporting with (and leading where required) understudy rehearsals including tech and dress rehearsals of the Understudy company, attending the theatre to note performances, running pre performance rehearsals and generally supporting the directors as otherwise required.
Experience working on a professional production is essential. Experience as Assistant Director on a professional production is desirable.

Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract.
Job Location: Central London.
Contract Type: Fixed Term until 4th December, 2026.
Salary: Weekly salary of £900 per week, pro-rated in cover rehearsals.
Weekly Hours: Six days per week, Tuesday to Sunday including some evening work.
