The successful candidate will have relevant and transferrable experience working in a similar capacity on a long-running show and have previous experience of conducting a band, and must have the right to live and work in the UK. The Assistant Musical Director works within the management team on Tour, and candidates must feel comfortable in this position.
The AMD is responsible for regularly conducting the show from the keyboard, and assisting the MD with the day-to-day running of the music department. SIX has an incredible on-stage band made up of exclusively female and non-binary musicians. We can therefore only consider female and non-binary candidates for this role. Contract Type: Full-time, fixed-term
Start Date: 10th August 2026 (Rehearsals)
End Date: Guaranteed contract until 23rd May 2027, the candidate must be available until 10th October 2027 for a potential extension
Typical show schedule (subject to change: performances are 6 days per week either Monday – Saturday or Tuesday – Sunday depending on each venue’s schedule
Salary: £1050 per rehearsal and playing week, plus applicable Touring Allowance and Travel Payments
Responsible To: Associate UK Musical Supervisor, General Manager, Musical Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To learn and perform the keys part from memory within a suitable time frame from the commencement of the contract;
- To support the Associate UK Musical Supervisor and Musical Director with scheduling and administrative tasks during rehearsals as necessary;
- To teach any new music to the cast of the Second Tour alongside the Musical Director, Associate Musical Supervisor and Associate UK Musical Supervisor;
- To tour full time with the show nationally and internationally and be an active leader amongst the touring company;
- To attend band calls for the Second Tour as requested;
- To lead the band during rehearsals if requested;
- To act as the first port of call for MD cover should the Musical Director be unavailable for any reason including the carrying out of weekly show watches;
- To lead the band during any performances of the Second Tour where the Musical Director is absent or conducting a show watch;
- To perform the keys part at any performance of the Second Tour where the Musical Director is absent or conducting a show watch;
- To attend maintenance rehearsals and notes sessions for the Second Tour as requested and subject to any external commitments;
- To participate in the training of new band deps as necessary;
- To conduct weekly show watches of the Second Tour;
- To efficiently manage your time so that ongoing accrual of overtime is avoided and to inform us in advance of any unavoidable accrual of overtime;
- Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of an Assistant Musical Director based on industry norms and practice.
Person Specification:
- A strong musical background and keyboard playing skills, with experience across a variety of musical genres;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Exceptional leadership skills;
- A proactive and flexible attitude;
- Previous AMD experience on a musical is desirable;
- Previous international touring experience is desirable.
