We are looking for applicants with demonstrable professional experience working as an Assistant Stage Manager (Book Cover). The role requires someone who has exceptional people skills, strong communication and organisational skills, can keep calm under pressure, and has a positive, flexible and proactive attitude.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Assisting the Stage Management teams with the running of the Production in both rehearsals and performances, covering tracks, maintenance and other ad hoc duties as required.

– Ensure stage and rehearsal environments are set-up and maintained as required with appropriate set, props, costume and other effects, as necessary.

– Perform the ASM plots as directed by the Stage Manager, including any onstage cues.

– Learn and keep up-to-date with ‘the book’ and call the show when required.

– Supervise and teach deps and show crew as required.

– Recognise where maintenance work needs to be carried out/replacements are required and bring this to the attention of the Stage Manager.

– Attend maintenance calls as required.

– Maintain and source props, carrying out repairs in emergencies as required.

– Ensure all stage management equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner.

– Assist the SM team with rehearsal requirements, including script copies, stage markup, rehearsal and props requests.

– Work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production.

– Learn all plots/tracks within your department to provide absence cover for other members of your department as necessary.

– Assist the Stage Management team with press or other publicity events, as required.

– Ensure that Health & Safety procedures & practices are adhered to, including filling out accident reports if required.

– Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of an ASM/Book Cover based on industry norms and practice.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

– Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail.

– A proactive and flexible attitude.

– The ability to work well with creative teams, actors and other members of the company.

– The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise.

– Previous experience calling musicals.

– A calm and practical approach to technical troubleshooting.

– Knowledge of SOLT and Equity union agreements.

– Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation including LOLER, RA and Working at Height.
