Overview of Role: Step into the Spotlight
We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join the Automation department for Disney’s Hercules in London’s West End on a fixed-term basis.
As an Automation Assistant, you’ll report to the Head and Deputy Head of Automation. Your focus will be on supporting the safe operation, maintenance, and smooth running of automated stage machinery and systems during rehearsals and performances.
Responsibilities and Duties: Backstage Brilliance
- Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Automation, liaising between the Company Manager, Technical departments, Creative Team, Production, and General Management Teams to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
- Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Automation with any day-to-day changes that might impact the running of the Production.
- Perform daily setup, automation rig checks, and maintain clear communication within the Automation team.
- Ensure awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
- Operate the show automation for performances, replicating the show’s design.
- Attend rehearsal, technical, dress, and understudy rehearsals as required.
- Support the Head and Deputy Head of Automation in maintaining all automation equipment to ensure it is in working order for each performance. Maintain the quality of the show as directed by the artistic requirements and under the guidance of the Head of Automation, Production Manager, and Creative Team.
- Report and provide timely feedback on show and staff-related issues.
- Work in full compliance with Disney’s Health and Safety Policy and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices
What We’re Looking For:
- Background: Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production, working alongside an international cast, is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of setting up, maintaining, and operating automation systems including electronics, electric motors, winches and automated rigging devices.
- Automation Operation: Experience in operating computerized automation control equipment is highly desirable.
- Working at Height: Comfortable with working at height as part of daily responsibilities.
- Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships across departments.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent initiative and practical problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure backstage situations.
- Calm Under Pressure: Able to handle issues that arise during performances with focus, professionalism, and composure.
- Communication: Clear and confident communicator, with the ability to make informed decisions and collaborate effectively with cast, creative, and production teams.
- Health & Safety: Solid understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to the role, including LOLER, PUWER, and Working at Height regulations.

- Contract Type: Fixed-Term
- Start Date: 24th November 2025
- End Date: 27th June 2026
- Hours: 48 hours per week
- Schedule: Monday to Saturday (evening and weekend show schedule)
- Health & Safety: This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety Rules & Regulations at the production.
