Show schedule: Performances are 6 days per week, typically Monday – Saturday. The performance schedule shall be confirmed at point of contract.
Holiday: As per the SOLT/BECTU Agreement (32 days per full calendar year). There will be a holiday embargo across this contract and any accrued holiday shall be paid out at the end of contract.

Personal attributes: We are looking for applicants with previous Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-up experience on a musical. The role requires someone who has excellent technical skills and proven experience in working with all hair types. Candidates must also have the ability to work flexibly in high pressure environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- To assist the Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-Up in the running of the department throughout rehearsals, tech and performances;
- To attend rehearsals and fittings as mutually agreed between us, your department, and the Wigs, Hair and Make-Up Designer and/or Wigs Supervisor;
- To uphold the high production standards set by the Wigs, Hair and Make-Up Designer and maintain the artistic quality of the original design;
- To be responsible for the good maintenance of all wigs and hairpieces, ensuring that wigs are maintained at a high standard, as directed by the Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-Up;
- To dress and set the wigs/hairpieces as needed and assist the cast with the fitting of their wigs/hairpieces for each performance of the Production, or as required for any rehearsals, promotional events or additional calls;
- To assist the cast with any quick changes during the performance, as required;
- To provide the cast and band with advice or assistance with their make up as requested, ensuring that any makeup worn is in line with the original creative designs for the Production;
- To deputise for the Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-up, stepping up to cover them when required;
- To teach your track to the Wigs, Hair and Makeup Assistant, and other members of your department, to ensure that they are able to cover you if required;
- To be responsible for the ordering and replenishing of department supplies as needed;
- To liaise as needed with the Wigs Supervisor in regard to any replacements, alterations or repairs needed for the wigs and/or hairpieces;
- To assist in training department deps to ensure there is sufficient cover for you and for your department for any periods of absence;
- To work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production and rehearsals;
- To ensure all Wigs, Hair and Make-Up equipment and backstage areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner;
- To provide support for all rehearsals, promotional/marketing events and other calls as required;
- To ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times and that all Health and Safety procedures and practises are adhered to;
- To be a proactive member of the technical team and support the wider team;
- To assist in compiling and keeping up-to-date all necessary show paperwork (including the Wigs, Hair and Make-Up Bible) both in hard copy and digital;
- To obtain where possible VAT invoices for any hires and purchases made through petty cash;
- To maintain the department Health and Safety record and good housekeeping procedure;
- To comply at all times with the rules and regulations in force at the venues under the control of the Production;
- To work in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include any training deemed necessary;
- Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-Up based on industry norms and practice, or as directed by the Wigs, Hair and Make-Up Designer, Wigs Supervisor, Production Manager, Company Manager, Producers or General Managers.
Person Specification:
- Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role in the West End or on Tour;
- Previous experience of working on a West End musical;
- Excellent Wigs/Hair experience and excellent technical skills;
- Proven experience in working with textured and afro hair and all ranges of hair types;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
- A proactive and flexible attitude;
- The ability to work closely with actors and creative teams, and handle confidential information with discretion;
- The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
- Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation;
- Knowledge of SOLT BECTU agreements.
