Development Director

Summary

The Marylebone Theatre is seeking a highly skilled and entrepreneurial Individual Development Director to develop and deliver a fundraising strategy with the goal of securing £200k annually. This will involve establishing and nurturing relationships with major donors, developing a patrons and corporate sponsors scheme and grant applications.

Main Responsibilities 

Strategic

  • To design and present a fundraising strategy for increasing income across three streams: major donations; patrons and corporates; trusts and foundations. 
  • To set fundraising targets and present quarterly progress reports. 

Fundraising

  • Lead on attracting major donations, including developing and maintaining relationships with potential and actual donors and creating cultivation events, including gala nights and special receptions. 
  • Secure and grow Trust & Foundation income, with a particular focus on funding for core costs. Oversee our consultant fundraisers to make applications. 
  • Design and deliver a Patrons and Membership scheme, including imagining and implementing an infrastructure for delivering patron and member experiences, such as attending press nights, meeting cast and creatives, attending readings and workshops 
  • Design and deliver a Corporate Sponsorship scheme, including imagining and implementing an infrastructure for delivering patron and member experiences, such as attending press nights, meeting cast and creatives, attending readings and workshops – and overseeing promotion of the scheme via the website and other potential marketing channels.
  • Oversee the preparation of high quality, targeted and compelling fundraising materials, including for the website, letters, proposals, presentations and updates. 

Leadership 

  • Play an active and positive role as part of the Senior Leadership Team

General 

  • This role requires flexibility including evening and weekend work for events 
  • As a term of your employment, you may also be asked to undertake other such appropriate duties as and when required of you. 
  • Participate in all training and development initiatives as required. 
  • Attend MT press nights and patrons & members evenings. 
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and regular MT meetings. 

Administrative

  • To report on all meetings and maintain accurate records, including monitoring income against targets and flagging risks and opportunities. 
  • To provide data and context for updates to the board of trustees.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of fundraising from individual supporters, including managing donor relationships.
  • Proven track record of asking for and securing gifts. 
  • Demonstrable success in event planning. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Strategic thinker with excellent planning skills
  • Strong project management skills with excellent attention to detail. 
  • A proactive, flexible and collaborative approach with willingness to work evenings and weekends
