Summary
More Details
Hampstead Theatre is passionate about presenting bold, original and thought‑provoking work, and the Front of House Manager plays a central role in shaping the experience our audiences enjoy every day.
Working closely with the Theatre Manager, you will lead the Front of House Supervisors, Access Hosts and Ushers, ensuring all public areas remain welcoming, inclusive and aligned with Hampstead Theatre’s values. You will oversee the smooth running of daily operations including opening and closing procedures, customer service delivery, safety checks, incident response, fire safety, and first‑aid readiness. As senior Duty Manager for performances and events, you will ensure the venue remains safe, accessible and compliant with licensing and Health & Safety standards.
You will manage recruitment, induction, training and performance development across the FOH team, fostering a positive and collaborative working culture. You will also coordinate rotas, support housekeeping and security teams, and work closely with the Catering Manager and Bar teams to ensure seamless service throughout the customer journey.
The role has an important commercial dimension: supporting hospitality and fundraising events, overseeing merchandise sales and reconciliation, and ensuring FOH staff are briefed on current productions, visitor information and promotional activity. You will contribute to reporting and analysis of customer feedback and operational data, helping drive continuous improvement in service quality and audience experience.
This is a fast‑paced, hands‑on role requiring excellent communication skills, strong leadership qualities, confidence under pressure and a deep commitment to customer care. If you are organised, motivated and excited to support a busy producing theatre, we would love to hear from you.
We are looking for someone who demonstrates:
- A strong commitment to delivering exceptional, welcoming and accessible customer experiences.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and team‑leadership skills.
- Proven management or supervisory experience within Front of House, venue operations, customer service or hospitality teams.
- Sound understanding of health & safety, fire safety and customer care standards in public venues.
- Experience with daily operational procedures including opening/closing routines, incident management and compliance checks.
- Strong organisational ability and attention to detail, with experience managing rotas and administrative processes.
- Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Confidence in analysing customer feedback or operational data to inform improvements.
- A collaborative approach to working across departments, including technical, catering and marketing teams.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Willingness to undertake First Aid and Fire Marshal training.
- (Desirable) Previous experience in a theatre or cultural venue.
