This is a new role sitting under the Production and Technical directorate with an integral relationship to the Estates departments. Sustainability has been at the forefront of the NT’s strategic direction and is one of our commitments for 25/26, to work towards “Achieving net zero carbon,” and one of our three objectives, “be sustainable: financially, environmentally, socially.” We aim to deliver decarbonisation plans across the whole organisation but with a strong focus on the theatre production and estates parts of the business.
This role will lead the Sustainability Department and develop and deliver an ambitious environmental sustainability strategy, including a road map to net zero.
The role will build on work to date and accelerate the cultural and behavioural change needed to take the organisation to a net zero position.
We are sector-leading in our sustainable endeavours, including The Green Store and our commitment to, and development of, the Theatre Green Book. It is now time to drive our sustainable ambitions forward in a strategic, focused and public-facing way.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Experience of developing, implementing and leading a sustainability strategy at scale
- Demonstrable experience of driving successful organisational culture / behavioural change in a large organisation with many different stakeholder groups
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of government strategy, legislation, regulations and best practice in areas of sustainability, energy and environmental management
- Knowledge and ability to discern between different sustainability reporting frameworks and standards, such as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), UK Sustainability Disclosure Standards (UK SDS), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and Task Force and Climate related Financial Disclosures [TCFD]
- Proven track record in writing policy and guidance documents
If that sounds like you, this may be the role for you!
