Summary

To assist the Community Connector with the organisation and facilitation of the Shakespeare Nation Project. Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, gathering feedback, and correspondence with participants. Lead on evaluation and monitoring as guided by YTR and RSC’s frameworks. Create social media content, manage posts, and engage with the online community to promote the project. With the Community Connector, to ensure the wellbeing and safety of the participants involved.

Job Description

Shakespeare Nation is a community participation programme run by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and York Theatre Royal, which collaborates with people who have little or no experience of Shakespeare to explore his plays and make theatre that reflects and celebrates who we are as a nation.

York Theatre Royal and the RSC will build a community company to explore Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, and what this play means to them, their town or city and their lives.

We are looking for a Project Assistant to support on our weekly sessions, culminating in a sharing in 2025.

Dates/Times: 12.30pm – 4.30pm on Monday afternoons

Autumn 2024, weekly sessions:

Week 1: Monday 23 September 2024

Half term: 28 October

Week 10: Monday 02 December

Spring 2025, weekly sessions:

Week 1: Monday 13 January 2025

Half term: 17 February

Week 10: Monday 24 March

Sharing date TBC

Fee: £120 per session

Main Duties

To assist the Practitioner with the session – setting up the workshop room and resources required, collecting and accompanying latecomers, working positively in the group.

Encourage and motivate participants to actively engage in session activities.

Offer one-on-one assistance to participants who need extra support.

Adapt activities to meet the varying needs and abilities of participants.

To support the creation of a sharing responding to Hamlet.

To accompany the group on trips as and when appropriate.

Communicate with the Community Connector any concerns about participants wellbeing.

Be an advocate for access and inclusivity in the Arts.

Provide administration support around the project.

Job Requirements

Candidates must be over 18 years of age

Experience of community participation

Enthusiasm, imagination & drive

Understanding of theatre technical skills & practice

Good organisational skills

Ability to use own initiative

Ability to work as part of a team

Experience of working/volunteering on community theatre projects

Knowledge of Shakespeare

Must clear an enhanced DBS check
