Theatre Technician / Theatre Technical Assistant

The Magic Circle is recruiting a Theatre Technician and Technical Assistant for our London theatre. Applicants should have some experience with sound, lighting, or video kit, including QLab, EOS, Mitti, ATEM, Elgato Stream Deck, and Allen & Heath. Roles involve setup, operation, and maintenance, ensuring smooth-running magical events.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on the role, responsibilities will include:

• Operating and supporting technical equipment for shows and events (lighting, sound, video, and vision mixing).

• Assisting with show setups, rehearsals, and live performances.

• Helping performers and directors meet their technical needs.

• Maintaining equipment and reporting or fixing faults.

• Supporting volunteer and part-time crew during events.

• Following health and safety practices in all technical operations.

Equipment You’ll Be Working With

Our theatre is equipped with:

• QLab – show control software

• EOS – lighting software and control system

• Mitti – video playback software

• ATEM Software Control – vision mixing and video switching

• Elgato Stream Deck – control interface

• Allen & Heath Sound Desk – audio mixing console

• Radio Microphones – wireless mic system

About You

We’re looking for candidates who are:

• Interested in or experienced with technical theatre or live event production (sound, lighting, or video).

• Practical problem-solvers with good teamwork skills and a calm approach under pressure.

• Comfortable working evenings and weekends when events are scheduled.

• Keen to learn (for the Assistant role) or confident leading technical delivery (for the Technician role).

• An interest in magic and live performance is welcome but not required.

Pay and Hours

• Theatre Technician: £2,200 per month, 35 hours per week. Overtime beyond 35 hours paid at £18/hour.

• Theatre Technical Assistant: £1,500 per month, 25 hours per week. Overtime beyond 25 hours paid at £15/hour.
