Overview of Role

We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join the Wigs, Hair, and Makeup department for Disney’s The Greatest Showman on a fixed-term basis.

As a Wigs, Hair & Make-Up Assistant, you’ll report to the Head and Deputy Head of Department. Your focus will be on the preparation, maintenance and continuity of wigs, hair, and make-up for the cast, ensuring a smooth and efficient backstage operation during rehearsals and performances.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Make Up liaise between the Company Manager, Technical departments, Creative Team, Production and General Management Teams to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair on any day-to-day changes that might impact the running of the Production.
  • Perform daily setup, pre-sets and provide clear communication within the Wigs team.
  • Ensure awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain and clean all wigs to ensure they are stage-ready each night.
  • Support wig fittings and assist with styling or changes as required by the creative direction.
  • Attend rehearsal, technical, dress and understudy rehearsals as required.
  • Responsible for repairing Wigs as instructed, maintaining the show’s quality as dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the Head and Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Make Up, Production Manager and Resident Creative Team.
  • Report and feedback show and staff-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Acquire familiarity with all plots/tracks within the Wigs department.
  • Work in full compliance with Disney’s Health and Safety Policy and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Background: Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production, particularly those involving international casts and the opening of new shows, is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of wig construction, maintenance, and materials is essential; barbering or hairdressing skills across all hair types are desirable
  • Afro-Textured Hair Expertise: Confident and experienced working with Afro and textured hair and wigs
  • Wig Maintenance: Skilled in repairing, styling and preserving wigs to a high theatrical standard.
  • Period Hair Styling: Experience in period-specific hair styling for stage productions.
  • Make-Up Knowledge: Understanding of theatrical makeup and application techniques, including fashion and stage-specific products. Confident in applying makeup quickly and effectively in high-pressure, fast-moving environments.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cast, creatives, and crew
  • Health & Safety Awareness: Sound understanding of health and safety practices in a backstage environment.

Additional Information

  • Contract Type: Fixed-Term 48 hours per week.
  • Start Date: Late January 2026 (exact date TBC)
  • Run Dates: March 2026 – May 2026
  • Hours: 48 hours per week
  • Schedule: Tuesday to Sunday (evening and weekend show schedule)
  • Health & Safety: This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety Rules & Regulations at the production.
