Job Description
We are seeking a Youth Theatre Practitioner to deliver two Saturday Youth Theatre sessions at York Theatre Royal – a 5-8s years and 8-11s years group.
This fixed term contract is for 10 weeks from 28 September to 07 December 2024 (excluding 02 November, which is half term).
In addition, there will be a team meeting on 10 September from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, extra rehearsals on 09 November and 07 December from 2pm to 5pm, two 1 hour production meetings (dates TBC), a plot and tech day on 11 December and a performance day on 14 December.
Fee – £68 per session plus £448 for meetings, additional rehearsals and tech week. The fee is payable on receipt of invoices as per the timetable for payment.
Main Duties:
To plan and facilitate the 5-8s Youth Theatre group – agreeing broad termly content in advance with the Head of Youth Theatre and sending through workshop plans in advance.
To plan, facilitate and direct the 8-11s Youth Theatre group, working towards a production.
To attend two production meetings, working within the parameters of the production budget and 8-11s Directors visions to deliver a coherent and creative production.
To accompany the Youth Theatre group on trips, if requested by the Head of Youth Theatre.
To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably requested.
Job Requirements
Candidates must be over 18 years of age
Ability to work a regular Saturday morning for the autumn term
Experience as a theatre practitioner with 5-11yr olds
Have directed a scripted youth theatre performance
Enthusiasm, imagination & drive with the ability to motivate and inspire young people
Understanding of theatre technical skills & practice
Good communication and negotiation skills
Ability to use own initiative
Ability to work as part of a team
Must clear an enhanced DBS check
