SOLT & UK Theatre welcome the recent announcement of the full-scale review of Arts Council England. Many of our members receive ACE funding, including some of the UK’s largest cultural institutions. With our broad membership, we are well placed to comment on how ACE funding supports the theatre ecosystem to deliver world-class creativity.
SOLT & UK Theatre want to see a strong, well-funded ACE, so that it is well-placed to deliver a dynamic culture strategy – a strategy that maintains our world-class status and delivers high quality cultural programming and infrastructure across England. To achieve this, we believe that there is a need to align public investment, ensuring there is a holistic and sustainable funding approach to achieve value for money. This work has been paused due to the General Election and will resume after 4th July.
In light of the General Election announcement we are anticipating an update on the status of the review from officials. The Opposition have also committed to a review and we will be engaging with members on the issue in the coming weeks.
