Risk & Safety

UK Theatre delivers an industry-leading, professional Risk & Safety service to members. We provide advice and guidance on a range of subjects including health & safety risk management, counter terrorism, security and safeguarding. We aim to ensure high standards of safety and risk throughout the industry, helping members to look inside their organisations and establish, or improve, health & safety controls.

Member Benefits

Membership of UK Theatre gives you free access to advice and support from our industry experts. Our core areas of focus are:

  • Health & Safety
  • Counter terrorism
  • Security
  • Safeguarding

We are also able to offer general guidance on venue operational matters. Your membership entitles you to ad hoc advice by phone or email. Members who feel they would benefit from longer-term or more in-depth support (ie. work that will require significant preparation, or visits to your venue/office) are able to arrange this at a reduced, additional rate.

Member Groups

We provide opportunities for our members to come together to share advice and concerns through our regular technical and security forums.

Theatre Operators Security Communications Advisory Group (TOSCA)

Open to operations management working for UK Theatre venues. It meets twice a year in a hybrid format, and allows venues from across the UK to share security concerns and advice. Members can sign-up via the button below (viewable only when logged in).

SOLT & UK Theatre Technical Committee (SUTC)

Open to technical staff working for UK Theatre venues. It meets twice a year in a hybrid format, and allows venues from across the UK to share technical and health & safety concerns and advice. Members can sign-up via the button below (viewable only when logged in).

Theatrewatch

Open to theatre and front of house management staff working for London-based UK Theatre venues. Theatrewatch meets every second month, and members receive regular email updates about current security or travel risks which might affect their venues. Members can sign-up via the button below (viewable only when logged in).

We send out regular email updates to our member groups, asking for their input in official consultations sharing information which is passed onto us by local business improvement districts and the police force.

Industry-Wide Work

We work to assist the theatre industry in promoting, improving and maintaining health & safety standards, making sure that our members’ interests are represented to decision-makers.

We engage with key stakeholders across the industry to support our members’ interests, and we send a representative to the Theatre Safety Committee, Standing Committee for Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment, Association of British Theatre Technicians Safety Committee, Safety Advisors Group in Entertainment, Joint Advisory Committee for Entertainment and West End Security Group.
