Assistant Front of House Manager

Summary

To supervise the Front of House operation at York Theatre Royal to ensure the highest standards of customer service, comfort and safety. To have operational control as duty manager of public spaces across opening hours, including during performances. To provide a welcoming presence to all visitors.

Main Duties

To lead the team in ensuring an efficient and welcoming service to all customers – ensuring that the service is prompt, friendly, consistent and attentive to all customer’s needs.

To ensure that all public areas are both well presented and safe for public use. To offer a friendly, inviting and comfortable atmosphere to all audiences and visitors.

To be proactive in allocating resources, be flexible in meeting changing requirements ensuring the needs of the business are met in every area; and be mindful of budgets.

To have a detailed understanding of evacuation and health & safety procedures and to implement these as required.

To deliver excellence in all aspects of the caf and bar operation, with consideration to presentation, profit margins and consistency.

To host and facilitate a team briefing to ensure all Welcome Staff are prepared for the day ahead and provided with the relevant show information.

To ensure all areas are always stocked and making sure displays are attractive and clearly priced.

To issue floats, manage cash handling and cashing up following YTR’s financial procedures.

To complete reports for each event, record customer feedback and collect monitoring information.

To serve customers on the Bars and Caf when necessary and always support Welcome Team staff.

To ensure excellent communication between all members of the Welcome Team and across departments.

To undertake other duties, as required, to support the Front of House Manager and Operations Director with all admin and operational procedures, ensuring they are completed on time and to a high standard.

To work with Front of House Manager and Operations Director to ensure targets are achieved.

Person Specification

Essential

Experience in a customer facing hospitality role

Excellent customer service skills, a drive for genuine customer engagement and impeccable attention to detail

Personable, friendly and empathetic to all, with the ability to adapt to different social situations and people

A team player who enjoys helping others

An organised and reliable person with good time management skills

A problem solver, with creative flair and a willingness to go the extra mile

The ability to work flexible hours

Bar/ cellar experience

Caf / Barista experience

Good administrative skills and knowledge of IT

Smartly dressed and take overall pride in appearance

An interest in theatre

Desirable

First Aid at Work training certificate holder

Food Hygiene Level 3

Knowledge of dealing with conflict resolution

Training in public space Health & Safety
