This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of our exciting and technically challenging in-house festive production, working as part of the backstage crew and supporting the action on stage. Our ASM will need to be an excellent team player who can deliver a seamless performance with the company every single time.
Available between:
Wednesday 5th November 2025 – Saturday 29th November for rehearsals
1st December – 5th December for technical rehearsals
7th December – 3rd January 2025 for performances
Pay:
£530 x 4 weeks of rehearsal
£550 x 4 weeks of performances
Subsistence is an additional payment in line with industry standards
Holiday pay calculated at the end of the contract
What you’ll be doing
- Liaising with the Company Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager, Producers and Creative team to obtain a thorough understanding of a Cornwall Playhouse Production.
- Producing and maintaining the props list. Providing and sourcing rehearsal props and furniture as required and within budget parameters, design specification and timeframe.
- Assisting with mark outs of the rehearsal room and stage as well as maintaining cleanliness of these spaces.
- Assisting with the running of rehearsal and performance activity with particular responsibility for props management and maintenance.
- Making petty cash purchases as required and accounting for expenditure, obtaining where possible VAT invoices for any hires and purchases.
- Ensuring rehearsal environments are set-up, cleaned and maintained as required with the appropriate set, props, costumes and other rehearsal facilities necessary.
- To be responsible for tracks during the running of the shows including the pre-show set-up and scene changes.
- Maintaining the condition of props throughout the rehearsals and performances.
- Maintaining both hard-copy and electronic copies of cue sheets and ASM bibles for props and show tracks.
- Working along-side the show crew, ensuring communication is smooth and relationships are positive.
- Carrying out careful observation and have an active involvement in all production-related risk assessments.
- Carrying out all other duties normally associated with the role of ASM on a large-scale production, including making notes, communication and running cues.
- Communicate directly with all departments during the run of the Show, ensuring communication channels remain open.
- Creating and encouraging a supportive, positive and inclusive backstage environment for the cast and crew.
- Representing the company with diplomacy, discretion and courtesy at all times, safeguarding all confidential information.
- Complying with all company policies and undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the Company Stage Manager, Producers, or Senior Management.
Who we are looking for
- Someone who already has experience as an Assistant Stage Manager on a large-scale production.
- Previous experience working with props.
- Self-motivated, proactive and energetic, with the ability to work well with actors and other theatre staff.
- A calm and practical approach to technical trouble-shooting.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
