Job title: DEPUTY HEAD OF ELECTRICS

Reports to: HEAD OF ELECTRICS

At Hampstead Theatre, we create progressive, thought provoking and original theatre, working with the best creative talent.

We are looking for a talented Deputy Head of Electrics to work with our Head of Electrics to deliver the electrics, sound and audio-visual aspects of all productions across our main stage and studio every year.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Assist the Head of Electrics & freelance Production Managers with all productions & events planning, staffing and fulfilment.
  • Deputise for the Head of Electrics in their absence.
  • Oversee get-in and get-out of lighting, sound and video equipment across the venue as agreed with the Head of Electrics.
  • Support the daily operation of shows as required by the Head of Electrics.
  • Support the Head of Electrics to ensure that Hampstead electrics and associated equipment are maintained to a safe and compliant standard and ready for use as required.
  • Provide excellent communication and support to creatives and production professionals working at Hampstead Theatre.
  • Assist with additional tasks on stage and across the venue as required.
  • Oversee the implementation of production Health & Safety requirements in planning and on stage.
  • Drive your own career and skills development, making the most of the opportunities made available to you.
  • Work in a safe and legal way to comply with regulatory and legislative requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Our Deputy Head of Electrics should be: 

  • Organised, with an eye for detail
  • A great communicator and team player
  • A creative thinker and problem solver

Knowledge  

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of current theatre Electrics practice.
  • Good knowledge of current theatrical Sound and AV practice.
  • Good electrical knowledge and practical making and repair skills.
  • Good knowledge of networking systems.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety practice relevant to the role.
  • Good knowledge of programming ETC lighting consoles.
  • Knowledge of Vectorworks and Lightwright desirable.

Skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent technical skills relevant to the role.
  • Good ability to interpret and work from technical drawings.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good numeracy skills.

Experience

  • Direct experience of lighting, sound and audio-visual rigging and operation.
  • Excellent experience of programming ETC consoles and moving lights.
  • Basic moving light repair and maintenance experience.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with and programming for Lighting Designers.
  • Experience of designing, building and fitting-up electrical effects and practicals.
  • Experience of working at height.
  • Experience of working with risk assessments and method statements for safe working.

Qualifications 

  • IPAF 1A or 3A and Harness & Rescue (training can be provided in post).
  • PASMA desirable
  • IOSH Managing Safely desirable.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Salary: £36,500 p.a. plus overtime *
Hours: This is a full-time position.  A normal working week consists of 43 hours.  Additional work hours, Sunday work and overnight work will be required during production periods, for which overtime is payable.  The schedule is based on operational needs whilst also aiming to ensure work-life balance.

Holiday: 28 days’ annual leave plus Public Holidays.

Notice: One week during three-month probationary period, eight weeks after probation is passed.
