The Director of Commercial Growth is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the growth and development of Worthing Theatres & Museum. This post will drive the organisation’s trading subsidiary commercial revenue streams which support WTM to achieve its charitable objectives and the long term financial sustainability of the charity.

The postholder will work closely with the Executive, Senior Management Team and Trading Board to develop and deliver on an ambitious commercial strategy to drive growth and increase profitability, maximising the potential of WTM’s multiple commercial revenue streams. 

This post will take an analytical, data-driven approach to commercial income generation, promoting growth, maintaining profit margins, setting targets, establishing procedures to meet commercial ambitions, identifying new market opportunities and diversifying the income streams to ensure that WTM achieves its significant financial targets.

Key Priorities

  • Develop and implement a venue hire strategy, diversifying the income strands to deliver on ambitious financial targets.
  • Strategic development of the bars and concessions, across the portfolio of venues including the new café in the Museum, to facilitate a significant increase in secondary spend & achieving increased income targets.

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Significant commercial experience and business acumen, with a track record of driving growth and increasing profitability in a similar environment with multiple revenue streams.
  • A proven strong track record in using data to drive decision making.
  • Understanding of the needs and governance of a charity in regards to trading activities. 
  • Significant experience of maximising profitability through events and conferencing and other commercial income streams.
  • Experience of the redevelopment of bars and/or concessions and maximising sales.
  • Experience of working with and negotiating leases and contracts. 
  • Experience of procurement.
  • Financially astute with experience of effectively managing budgets and financial projections to ensure the best use of resources through prioritisation and planning.
  • Excellent knowledge of licensing legislation.
  • Proven people and communications skills and an ability to negotiate confidently with suppliers and other commercial partners to deliver high returns.
  • Understanding of exceptional customer care.
  • Experience and understanding of theatre & relevant business licensing regulations.
