Disney is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join as Deputy Head of Sound, working with the Company Manager, Technical departments, General Management Teams and local venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.

Responsibilities and Duties
·       Assist the Head Of Sound, liaising with the Company Manager, Technical departments, Resident Creative Team, Production and General Management Teams and local venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.

·       Assist the Head Of Sound, communicating promptly with the Company Manager, Production, General Management and the Resident Creative Team on any day-to-day changes that might impact the running of the Production.

  • Assist the Head Of Sound to supervise and schedule members of the Sound team.

·       Take an active role in teaching new members of staff to ensure the smooth running of the production.

  • Perform daily setup and oversee sound rig checks as part of the sound team.
  • Ensure awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
  • Operate the sound mix for performances, adhering to the show’s sound design.
  • Attend rehearsal, technical, dress, and understudy rehearsals as required.
  • Maintain and repair elements of the sound system, including speakers, microphones, radio transmitters, orchestra pit installation, and communications and video equipment, as instructed and to maintain the quality of the show as dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the Head Of Sound, Production Manager and Resident Creative Team.
  • Ensure that radio mics are in working order for each performance and fit and change mic packs as required.
  • Report and feedback any show or staff issues promptly.
  • Assist the Head Of Sound to maintain accurate production paperwork and ensure the efficient flow of information necessary for the smooth running of the show.
  • Gain familiarity with all plots/tracks within the Sound department.

·       Attend weekly Head of Department meetings in the absence of the Head Of Sound.

·       Work in accordance with the Health And Safety Policy and maintain an excellent working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practices, liaising closely with Disney’s Health and Safety Manager to ensure that the Health And Safety Policy is followed.

 

Skills Required
·       Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production working with an international cast is highly desirable.

·       Clear, confident communication and decision-making abilities essential.

·       Ability to handle problems that occur during performances while remaining focused and calm under pressure.

·       Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with  cast, musicians, technical staff, and creative and production teams.

·       Excellent problem-solving skills and use of own initiative.

·       A full awareness of the need for integrity and confidentiality.

·       Knowledge of maintaining and operation of theatre sound systems.

·       Ability to work at height.

·       Knowledge and understanding of H&S legislation such as LOLER, PUWER and WAH.

Additional Information
·       Fixed Term Contract – June 2025 start.

·       48 hours per week

·       Weekend and evening work integral (Tuesday to Sunday show schedule).

·       This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety rules & regulations in place at the production.
