Kenny Wax Productions are recruiting for an enthusiastic and self-motivated LX1 to join the hugely successful, long-running SIX UK & International Tour. The successful candidate will have relevant and transferrable experience as LX1 on similar productions, and must have the right to live and work in the UK.

The LX1 will be in charge of operating the lighting desk during performances, leading on the move/re-light of the production between touring venues and line-managing the LX2. Please note that this tour will include some overseas dates, including periods abroad for up to 12 weeks at a time.

Contract Type: Full-time, fixed-term.
Dates of Employment: September 2025 – September 2026.
Show schedule: 8 shows across any 6 days in a week.
Salary: Above BECTU/UK Theatre Minimums.
Probationary Period: 12 Weeks
Responsible To: Company Stage Manager and General Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Looking after the lighting systems used in the running of the show.
  • Re-lighting the show at each new venue of the tour.
  • Operating the lighting desk during performances.
  • Line-managing the LX2.
  • Training and supervising additional members of the LX department and in-house follow spot operators at each venue.
  • Checking and maintaining the lighting rig and LED pixel tape on the set.
  • Supervising the maintenance and preparation of the rig.
  • Assisting with the get-out at each venue.
  • Maintaining the production under the instruction of the creative team.
  • Working collaboratively with all other departments, the cast and creatives in order to ensure the smooth running of the production.
  • Attending all rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs as required by the Company Stage Manager or the Lighting Designer, including emergency calls in the event of equipment failure or equivalent.
  • Ensuring that all lighting equipment is maintained to a high standard, and notifying the CSM where repairs might be necessary.
  • Assisting the CSM with compiling and filing updated show paperwork, both soft and hard copy.
  • Working in accordance with the Producer and Venue’s health and safety policies, including attending training where necessary.
  • Ensuring all lighting equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner.
  • Learning other plots within your department and providing absence cover for other members of your department as necessary.
  • Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of an LX1 based on industry norms and practice.

Person Specification:

  • Demonstrable professional experience as LX1 on a production of a similar scale on tour/West End.
  • Confident working with and operating lighting technology including MIDI Show Control, Time Code and Eos programming.
  • Previous experience in accurately-calling follow spots.
  • Previous experience maintaining moving and generic lighting fixtures.
  • Comfortable working at height.
  • Previous experience operating the lighting desk on a musical.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • A calm and proactive approach to technical troubleshooting.
  • The ability to work well with actors and creative teams.
  • The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise.
  • Knowledge of UK Theatre/BECTU and Equity union agreements.
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation including COSHH.
  • Previous experience of line-management.
  • Confidence travelling overseas.
  • Willing to undertake physically demanding tasks.
