Museum Project Manager

Summary

The opportunity has arisen for a Museum Project manager to join Worthing Theatres and Museum.

More Details

The Project:

Worthing Theatres and Museum are working in partnership with Worthing Borough Council to install ground source heat supply to the museum and four theatres in Worthing town centre. The capital works required for the Museum are further complicated by the need for a 6 month closure of the building and potential risks to the museum collections. This role will be crucial in safeguarding our collections during the project.

Role Summary:

As Project Manager you will be the first point of contact between onsite contractors and WTM management during the building works. You will focus on building good working relationships to ensure the best flow of information, in all directions. You will ensure there are excellent communications and facilitate the oversight necessary to support the smooth and efficient operation, always prioritising the safe and appropriate environments for the collections.

PR is a crucial part of the project and you will work with the Marketing Team to capture the project progress, celebrating successes to share with our community.

Prior to the contractor’s arrival you will work with the Curatorial team to plan and implement the necessary decant of collections including the Decorative Arts collection.

During the six months of closure you will support the curators with a series of engagement projects, organising spaces for workshops and talks, supporting the installation of museum displays in unusual spaces and practical participation in the rationalisation of the collections.

This roles is 37 hours full time over 5 days (but 30 hours over 4 days also possible). 8 months fixed term (may be extended dependent on project deadlines and funding) Includes at least one Saturday a month

WTM is a charity with a diverse and ambitious cultural offering, our annual turnover in 2022-23 was £4.7million. This role would suit a dynamic individual who can balance the best interests of the historic building and collections with the demands of the building works. They will be an excellent communicator with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and possess a flexible and proactive approach to work that supports WTM’s vision, mission and values.

WTM offers a positive and supportive workplace providing an environment where both differences and what we have in common are celebrated. We engage with responsible and respectful working practices and empower our team to shape and deliver WTM’s key objectives with integrity. WTM opposes all forms of discrimination.
