Summary

We are looking for applicants with previous Stage Management experience. The role requires someone who has a calm and practical approach to technical trouble-shooting and the ability to work well in high pressure environments. Strong administrative skills and superb attention to detail are a must.

Salary: £1050 per performance week plus touring allowance & travel

Contract: Fixed Term 52 weeks

Show schedule: performances are 6 days per week either Monday – Saturday or Tuesday – Sunday depending on each venue’s schedule.

Holiday: 28 days per year

Job Description:

  • Managing the day-to-day running of the on-stage elements of the Production including all rehearsals and performances;
  • Alongside the Company Stage Manager, managing and scheduling the stage management department;
  • Ensuring that stage and rehearsal environments are set-up and maintained as required with appropriate set, props, and other effects as necessary;
  • Running the weekly technical rehearsal upon arrival to a new touring venue;
  • Performing the Stage Manager plots as required, potentially including some onstage cues;
  • Maintaining the Production as instructed and dictated by the creative team;
  • Recognizing where maintenance work needs to be carried out and liaising with the Company Stage Manager to organize necessary works;
  • Alongside the Deputy Stage Manager and Company Stage Manager, contributing to show reports and other production-related paperwork;
  • Ensuring all stage management equipment and areas are kept in a tidy and secure manner;
  • Assisting the stage management team with rehearsal requirements and requests;
  • Working alongside your team, other technical departments, stage management, the acting company and creative team members to ensure the efficient flow of information as necessary for the smooth running of the show;
  • Working collaboratively with all other departments including the theatre technical team in order to ensure the smooth running of the Production;
  • Learning other plots within your department and providing absence cover for other members of your department as necessary;
  • Deputising for the Company Stage Manager as necessary;
  • Acting as Company Stage Manager when the Company Stage Manager is absent from the building;
  • Ensuring the Technical ASM is suitably trained to deputise for you as required;
  • Compiling and keeping updated show paperwork, both digital and hard copy;
  • Working in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include any training deemed necessary, to keep up to date logs and lists of equipment for both show and backstage electrical owned and hired equipment, to include overseeing yearly PAT testing;
  • To maintain good communication with the Production Manager, should any props or set need replacing, or other work required;
  • Complying at all times with the rules and regulations in force at the venue under the control of the Production;
  • Having a practical understanding of the Producer’s employment policies and demonstrating a willingness to comply with these policies;
  • Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Stage Manager based on industry norms and practice.

 

Person Specification:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;

A proactive and flexible attitude;

Previous experience of UK Touring including leading venue technical rehearsals;

Previous experience as a Stage Manager on a West End or No. 1 Touring Musical;

Previous experience of working as a team;

The ability to work well with actors and creative team;

The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;

Awareness of current health & safety legislation;

Experience of international touring is desirable;

Strong pastoral skills are desirable.
