We are primarily a hirers space, although we produce our own professional Christmas show putting on over 25 performances to audiences in excess of 2000 every year. We currently host over 200 events a year across a range of genres, including our own Community Cinema screenings, and we also have meeting rooms and hot desks for hire, and our auditorium space available for private and business events.
We are currently in a very good position after what has been a very difficult time for the Arts, and we are also working on our next 5 year plan to ensure our continued success and financial stability. Role overview
The Theatre Manager provides the glue that holds together a gloriously eclectic mixture of people, overseeing all the theatre activities and managing a small team, as well as volunteers, supporting the day-to-day operations, and ensuring that the theatre is a welcoming and vibrant space for both audiences and artistes alike.
You will report directly to the Board of Trustees and will work alongside them to ensure maximum profit is achieved from specific areas of the business; you will also play a key role in projects that are currently in progress and others that are in the planning stages.
Job Requirements
What you’ll need:
- Previous experience of operational management, hands on and strategic
- A passion and understanding of the arts
- The ability to engage confidently and enthusiastically with a wide range of people and the local community
- Experience of leading, developing and line managing a small team, and a commitment to fostering staff well being
- An understanding of the importance of, and proactively engaging with, our wider Brentwood and artistic community
- Knowledge of financial and accounting systems with demonstrable skills in financial planning
Job Responsibilities
Finance: working with annual budgets and targets, determining hiring charges and agreeing contractual arrangements, and working with the freelance bookkeeper to oversee the accounts and day-to-day finances. Identifying, researching and applying for relevant funding opportunities.
People: oversee and manage team members and volunteers that welcome audiences into the building, responsibility for front of house, bar, box office, theatre and commercial hires, events, and with overseeing the technical aspects of performances/events for hirers and in-house productions.
Marketing: working with our external Social Media management company, marketing the theatre to maximise income from all rentable space, and play an active role
PR: you will be the face of the Theatre in our local community, working with the Council, our Corporate Sponsors, and representing the Theatre at Community events.
Facilities: managing day to day maintenance and utility contracts, ensuring the theatre is compliant.
